Constructed in 1853, this Gothic Revival-style church is the third house of worship used by New Jersey's oldest Episcopal congregation. The congregation's origins date to 1685, two years after William Penn's founding of Perth Amboy. It is surrounded by a historic graveyard. The first organized religious services were held by Church of England affiliated soldiers here sometime around 1685. The church was granted its charter by the King in 1698 and the first church was built in 1721. It was torn down in 1849 and the present building erected in 1852. |
